School Sexual Misconduct Proceedings

Brown, Goldstein & Levy advocates for fairness in school sexual misconduct proceedings.

What is Title IX?

Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972 (Title IX) is the primary federal civil rights law that prohibits sex discrimination in educational institutions. All public and private elementary and secondary schools, school districts, colleges and universities receiving any federal funds must comply with Title IX. Under Title IX, sex discrimination can include the following types of sexual misconduct: rape, sexual assault, sexual battery, and sexual coercion.

How is Title IX enforced?

Each educational institution should have a policy against sex discrimination and procedures for investigating sexual misconduct.. Each educational institution should have a Title IX coordinator with authority to coordinate a school’s compliance with Title IX .

Do not be fooled! Title IX has not been repealed, despite the current Administration’s decision to enforce Title IX differently than the last Administration.
